Good afternoon Parents, Students, and Staff,
Update on “Credible Threat”
As you are likely aware at this time, there was what we considered a credible bomb threat for Noble High School posted through electronic media. Due to such low temperatures today, we relocated students to Noble Middle School. Once at NMS, we provided meals to students and found temporary housing for all groups.
Local and state police were called to the school, and canine searches were conducted. The building has recently been cleared for occupancy; however, the high school will remain closed this evening because I had already made the call to cancel activities there. We followed our evacuation protocol for the event and weather condition. We build these safety protocols hoping never to have to employ them in actual situations; however, I can report that the plans that were in place ensured the safety of 1300 students and staff.
While people generally seemed to handle the events of the day well, I noted students were particularly upset by the inconveniences likely caused by a peer. Thank you to parents who assisted us by honoring my earlier request to stay off phones and away from the middle school, so we could focus on internal communication and students.
I am reviled by the nature of this kind of intrusion to the educational day of half the students – it disrupted all middle school learning today as well – in our district. We will discover the identity of the perpetrator(s) and follow through to the full extent of options available to the school district.
A great deal of thanks to teachers, transportation, food service, police, fire and rescue, administration, students, and parents for your assistance and understanding.
