MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING March 7, 2019

 

A  meeting of the Board of Directors was held at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine on March 7, 2019 at 6:30 pm, with all members present except Ms. Potter, Ms. Manley  and Mr.Doiron. There was 1 in the audience.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms Hopper to go into executive session, amended to 405(6)B Evaluation of Employee. In at 6:37 pm. Out at 7:01 pm.

Mr Price addressed the audience regarding the norms of Public Input.

Ms. Manley entered the meeting at  7:02 pm.

Public Input:  None at this time.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Beal to accept the minutes of Feb. 14th as written. All members voted in favor, except Ms. Schaeffer who abstained, and the motion passed.

Ms. Schaeffer  made the motion and it was seconded by Ms.Mallett to accept the minutes of Feb. 28th as written. All members voted in favor, except Mr. Price and Ms. Beal who abstained, and the motion passed.

Ms. Mallett made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Beal to table agenda item #5, student presentation, until the March 14th meeting. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

Student Report:  

  • None at this time.  

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Mallett to approve the salary increases to the Superintendent of 2.5 %, the Assistant Superintendent of 5% and to the Business Manager of 3%.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

The Superintendent then shared an overview of the Draft Budget for FY20 to the board. The budget expenditures at this time are up 3.26% and the overall impact to taxpayers is a 6.99% increase.  The Superintendent provided a page that highlighted notes for board members as they go through the budget booklets. He reviewed several of the examples for the board. They discussed various factors that are impacting the budget and how to be clear in communicating this with the taxpayers.

The superintendent shared with the board that Aspen Dyer and Eric Griffin were chosen to be honored and represent Noble at the Southern Maine Activities Association Citizenship Awards Banquet. Ms.Neubert noted that the Boys Basketball Team received the Good Sportsmanship Award this year.  Well done.

 The Superintendent shared with the board the logistics for the ceremony for Captain Barnes. He also shared that the Chamber Singers will be singing at the ceremony.

On behalf of the Town of Berwick,  Mr. Price thanked MSAD #60 for all of the support for Capt. Joel Barnes.

Public Input #2  Mr. Price noted that he will not be seeking a new term but he would be happy to help another Berwick citizen get up to speed. He asked that we encourage Berwick citizens to take out papers.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Mallett to go into executive session for negotiations 1M.R.S.A. §405(6) (D). All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 8:17 pm Out at 8:35pm.
