    MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING on March 2, 2017

 

A regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held at the Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine on March 2, 2017 at 7:00 pm, with all members present except Ms. Wheeler and Mr. Smith. There were 6 in the audience.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to go into executive session  pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A) Employment of Officials.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 7:00 pm. Out at 7:02 pm.

Ms. Olean made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Potter to go into executive session  pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A) Employment of Officials.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 7:02 pm. Out at 7:07 pm.

Public Input

Mr. Jonathan Payne, president of the teachers union, shared that several teachers have approached the union about maternity leave and he wanted to put it on the radar of the board.  He also asked about the budget process and noted that the videos have not been helpful to those off the board at this point.  The Superintendent shared with Mr. Payne that the videos will be released to the public soon and all will have access to the conversation.

Ms. Potter  made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Olean to approve the contract of the assistant superintendent $107,381 and the business manager $90,250. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Olean to approve the minutes of February 16, 2017 as amended. All members voted in favor except Ms. Neubert who abstained and the motion passed.

Ms. Kaitlyn Price, student board member, shared the student report: Student Report

  • The music wing’s Noble’s Got Talent auditions occurred yesterday, March 1st, after school in the music wing. The list of who got in is expected to be posted by Friday afternoon.
  • The eighth grade Southern Maine Middle School Honor Festival is taking place this weekend in Westbrook, ME.
  • World Language Culture Night is taking place Thursday, March 9 6:00-8:00pm at the high school
  • The following athletes have made it to New Englands

    • Jake Martel-Wrestling
    • Nina Tasker- Track

  • Sign ups for spring sports are occurring over the next two weeks
  • Unified Basketball has a game Home vs. TA March 6 at 4:15.

Mr. Tom Ledue, grant writer for the district, shared with the board an overview of the work that he has done this year since September 1.  Grant Overview  The board thanked Mr. Ledue for his work for the district thus far and congratulated him on the positive results.

Ms. Denise Van Campen, the district business manager, shared with the board the updated full proposed FY 18 budget.  The board took some time reviewing the documents and organizing their binders.

The Superintendent shared with the board an overview of the budget Budget Document for Minutes 3.2.17.  He walked them through the information and the scenarios that we may be facing. The board had a lengthy conversation regarding the challenges that we are facing.

The superintendent then also shared letters from folks who are going up to testify at the legislative hearings in Augusta on March 3, 2017. Written Testimony , Written Testimony (2)

Other Business:

The Superintendent shared with the board the resignation of Ms. Sarah Perham from her elementary teaching position. Ms. Olean made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to accept the resignation of MS. Perham. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

The superintendent shared with the board the awarding of two Samsung Galaxy Tablets for the a group of students who competed in a STEAM project and are one of the five state finalist groups.  Students involved are Kylan Bowden, Samantha Larochelle and Dominic Polletta.

The superintendent updated the board on the happenings in the School Nutrition program. March School Nutrition Promotion

 

Ms. Olean made the motion and it was seconded by Ms Neubert to go into executive session pursuant to  1 M.R.S.A. §405 (6)(A) Employment of Employees. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 9:20 pm. Out at 9:56.

Mr. Price  made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Neubert to adjourn the meeting. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
