    MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING on May 7, 2015.

 

A regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine on May 7, 2015 at 7:34 pm with all members present. The student representative and the press were present.  There were 4 in the audience.

Ms. Alwin made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Potter that the minutes of April 16th be accepted. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

Public Input:  

None at this time

The Superintendent then shared with the board a list of probationary teachers who will be nominated for renewal for the following school year.  He shared the names and the schools and grade levels taught by these candidates.  Ms. Alwin made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Olean to approve the list of probationary teachers who are moving forward with renewal for the 15/16 school year. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

Other business:

The Superintendent shared a leave of absence from an employee who will be continuing on medical leave. He also shared two letters of resignation from two employees in the educational technician field (informational ) with the board.

The Superintendent shared a request leave of absence from Ms. Mary Delahanty due to family circumstances. Ms. Alwin made the motion and it was seconded by Mr. Cowan to accept the leave of absence of Ms. Mary Delehanty.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

The Superintendent then shared a letter of resignation from Mr. Matt Foley, special education case manager at Noble High School, Ms. Ashley McKenna, math teacher at Noble High School, Ms. Katlyn Stefanski, math teacher at Noble High School and Mr. Jeff Morris, math teacher at Noble High School.  Ms. Alwin made the motion to accept the letters of resignation and was seconded by Mr. Cowan. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

There is a request to make a change to the district calendar (a date swap) to better facilitate the parent conferences at the elementary level on April 7. Ms. Alwin made the motion and it was seconded to approve the calendar change as shared. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.

The Superintendent then shared that the annual pesticide application will take place on May 16, 2015 for the elementary schools and May 23, 2015 for the NMS and NHS.  Please see District website for more information.

The Superintendent shared with the board information regarding transporting students, right or privilege, as well as bus and bus stop assignments. Riding privileges can be suspended due to disciplinary issues.

Mr. Cowan would like to hear more about the impact of the SBAC testing on students and teachers.

The board had a discussion around civic engagement, responding to people under public input etc.

Ms. Alwin brought forward a concern regarding use of the facilities for a jamboree for LAX.  The superintendent shared that he would follow up with him. There was also a discussion around the facility use and fee schedules.

Mr. McCabe spoke again about holding a summit meeting with all of the youth sports teams locally with the school athletic dept. and athletic director to build a beneficial relationship.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Alwin to go into executive session for an employee issue. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 8:20 pm.  Out at 8:25 pm.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Mr. McCabe to go into executive session for an employee issue.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed. In at 8:26 pm. Out at 8:36 pm.

Mr. Price made the motion and it was seconded by Mr. Cowan to adjourn at 8:36 pm.  All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
