MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING on February 26, 2015.
A regular meeting of the Board of Directors was held at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine on January 22, 2015 at 7:00 pm with all members present. The student representative was present and the press was absent. There were 21 in the audience.
Mr. Price made the motion, at 6:32, and it was seconded by Mr. Cowan to go into executive session pursuant to Executive Session M.R.S.A 405 (6)(A) Legal Rights or Duties of a School Unit. All members voted in favor and the motion passed. Out at 7:06pm
Ms. Potter made the motion and was seconded by Ms. Alwin that the minutes of February 12th be accepted as presented. All members voted in favor except Mr. McCabe who abstained, and the motion passed.
Ms. Wheeler congratulated Ms. Felicia Page for her recognition as the class of 2015 Valedictorian and the recipient of the Maine Principals Association award. She will also be turning 18 tomorrow! Congratulations Felicia… a job well done!
The superintendent then walked through an overview of the ‘16 budget. He shared a PowerPoint that provided many statistics regarding demographics, testing data, literacy info, and professional development that were taken into consideration when developing the budget. See attached document.
The bottom line is that there is a 1.67% increase in budget expenditures, but a loss of revenue makes the increase more in line with 4.2%. The challenge that we face is getting to the public and helping them understand how the change in mill rate is impacting us as well. We are going to videotape as many meetings as we can and put the information up for all to view.
The Superintendent shared with the board a letter of resignation from Sandy Alexander, assistant principal/guidance counselor at the Lebanon Elementary Schools. She has accepted a position in Vermont as a principal of a K-8 school as of July 1, 2015. We will miss her greatly. Ms. Potter made the motion and it was seconded by Ms. Olean to accept the resignation of Ms. Sandy Alexander with regret. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
The Superintendent shared with the board a letter of resignation from Ms. Shiela Jordan for the position of Auditorium Manager effective July 1, 2015. We will miss her in the position but she will continue to work here in the library and the technology department going forward.
The Superintendent discussed with the board their board goals and will be discussing them with the board again after the budget is completed.

Mr. McCabe asked about the budgeting of the lights at the middle school. This will be discussed at the March 19th meeting.
Ms. Wheeler asked about the roofs around the district with the snow loads. The Superintendent updated the board on what we’ve been doing to address any concerns.
Ms. Potter made the motion to adjourn and was seconded by Ms. Alwin. All members voted in favor and the motion passed.
